Where are you from?
I'm From Dublin, Ohio.
What's your genre?
I am alternative pop.
If you could be a member of any band (past or present), which band would it be and why?
I would be a part of the Beatles, because I am so interested in their writing process. I would like to understand the meaning behind their lyrics, and be able to see how they came up with some of the ideas they have. Also I think it would be such an experience recording in the studio with them, seeing the way they think and the perspectives the Beatles have.
If you could open for any musician or band, who would it be?
It’s hard to pick a specific artist, but I think Carole King would be fun to open for. I imagine her crowds being big, yet not too crazy so people will still listen.
What decade does your band belong in?
My music belongs in present day. It has a pop sound that is modern, even though I use techniques many old artists use.
If you were stranded on a desert island, pick one album that you would be happy to have with you
If I was stranded on an island and could have one album, I would have Jack Johnson's ‘Banana Pancakes’. When I was little, my dad and I listened to it a lot, and I never got tired of the songs. Also, the songs put me in a happy mood, and I love the lyrics he uses- they have great imagery.
What is your must-have food during practice?
My must have food while practicing are Cheez-Its. I have them a lot when I study, so I guess they help me focus.
What's the worst gig you've ever played?
My worst gig was at a coffee shop, where my friends and family came to watch. I practiced- just not enough. I kept playing the wrong chords and having voice cracks, I felt so embarrassed!
What's the best gig you've ever played?
My best gig was at the Columbus Commons opening for Mcguffey Lane. It was a big stage with great sound, and it was a perfect summer day. Also, I had someone play percussion in the background and it made my songs sound a lot more upbeat!
Name one song you would absolutely not cover?
One song I would never cover is Back in Black by ACDC. It is definitely not my style!
What's your writing process like?
My writing process changes a lot, although I have started to develop a certain process. Normally on a daily basis I have song melodies pop up in my head. I immediately record them on my phone, and set them aside. Then, when a song idea comes to me, or I am feeling strongly about something, I will find one of the previous melodies I recorded on my phone and write lyrics to the tune. A lot of times as I am writing the lyrics, the melody changes.
Any Fun Facts?
One fun fact about me is that I don’t know how to read sheet music, I can only play by ear.
